Lorde: 'Playing with genres doesn't make me a genius'

'Royals' songstress Lorde has hit out at the people that call her a 'genius' because she's doing so well at such a young age and insists she just likes to be creative and push boundaries.

During a new interview with Fashion magazine, the 'Team' sensation explained that she doesn't consider herself to be a genius and wouldn't put herself among the ranks of great women, but admitted that it's an honour to be mentioned in the same breath as people she looks up to:

"Never for a second would I put myself beside a genius like Sylvia Plath. I may have specific tastes but I’m not trying to be avant-garde with my approach or my music. I like indie, pop and literature. I like to play with them but that doesn’t make me a genius."

17-year-old Lorde also opened up about how quickly people can dismiss teenagers, adding that they're surprisingly tuned-in and smart because of their use of new technologies: "I think young people have changed the way we view pop culture… we now have this discerning power. We all have Tumblrs, we curate imagery every day. We can sniff out bulls--t faster.”
