Lorde says her new material is "totally different"

Lorde reckons her new music is "totally different" to her last album.

The 17-year-old has her 2013 debut record 'Pure Heroine' to her name so far and she confirmed to BBC Newsbeat that she has started writing for its follow-up.

However, the 'Royals' star said that her change in circumstances has transformed the "vibe" of her tunes.

Lorde said: "I think I've learnt so much as a songwriter, there's going to be so much of an improvement because of that. I'm working on stuff quite tentatively, it's definitely still at the beginning and yeah, it's totally different."

She added: "I wrote the last album about that world which was the suburb where I grew up and populated by my friends and people who were really familiar to me. Now I'm in a different place everyday and I'm with new people every day and it's a different vibe."

The New Zealander meanwhile is due to headline the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London tonight (June 5) and the O2 Brixton Academy on Friday (June 6).
