Lorde on being a woman in music: "I'm not going to accept being patronised"

Lorde says she won't accept being "patronised" in the music industry.

The business is often male orientated, particularly in the non-performing side in areas such as production and tech.

However, the 17-year-old 'Royals' star has often cut an outspoken figure who is one to speak her mind - and this means she won't put up with any hint of sexism.

She told BBC Newsbeat: "I have an amazing team and people tend to be really straight up to me. When you start working with me I'm like, this is how it is going to be.

"I'm not going to accept being talked down to or patronised or anything which I know a lot of women do get."

Speaking meanwhile about the online abuse she and her boyfriend received after pictures of them appeared on the internet, Lorde said:

"I think stuff like that reflects more on other people than you. Because he's Chinese, people have a problem with that which just seems really weird to me. People are always saying like you guys are a really odd couple. I'm like, is that because I'm white and he's Chinese?"
