Lorde has opened up on the pitfalls of being a celebrity.

The singer is one of the biggest names in pop, but she is aged just 17.

Speaking to Billboard, the New Zealander admitted that has found it hard living under the microscope and the negative attention it can bring.

However, she has put that in the past after deciding to move any bad thoughts to the back of her mind.

Lorde said: "[At first] you think, 'Wow, I didn't realise people are that mean'. But it's because people don't really think of you as a person. You're this entity, this brand.

"I had a bit of a realisation last year. I was taking things people would say about me quite hard. If something isn't making me happy or making me better, then it shouldn't be something that I'm thinking about. After that, everything was OK."
