Macklemore: 'Getting a friend request from Ryan Lewis changed my life'

'Thrift Shop' superstar Macklemore has revealed that one life-changing moment he will always remember is the moment he received a friend request from collaborator Ryan Lewis (pictured left with Macklemore).

MTV will broadcast a documentary, which is called 'The Ride', about the pair tomorrow night at 10pm in the USA and in the footage, the rapper opens up about how they met and how much things have changed over the years:

"One of the moments that changed my life was the friend request that Ryan Lewis sent me on MySpace. I ended up clicking on his profile and heard a beat that he made and I was like 'oh man, this is great, I wanna get this beat. This is a young kid, I can probably get this beat for free!'"

Earlier this year, the pair were named Best Songwriters of 2013 by Music Week and the head of business analysis with Music Week, Paul Williams, explained that they were deserving of the title because of their fast rise to fame:

"Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were virtually unknown in the UK at the beginning of 2013, so it is quite some feat they finished as the year's most successful hit songwriters."
