Adam Levine admits Maroon 5 were 'drunk on hits' after 'Moves Like Jagger' success

Adam Levine believes Maroon 5 were too focused on making hits on their last album.

The group achieved huge commercial success with their 2012 record 'Overexposed', which spawned the global smash 'Moves Like Jagger'.

However, singer Levine told BBC News that in hindsight the group were blinded somewhat by a desire to keep making hits.

He said: "On 'Overexposed', there was a very conscious effort to have as many hits as we possibly could. It was very gluttonous in that way. The band had this new-found success from The Voice and then 'Moves Like Jagger' and we were very excited because we hadn't had hits for a while. So we were very hit-drunk."

The US stars are due to release new album 'V' on September 1 and Levine reckons they are going back to focusing on the album as a whole:

"On this record, we've balanced those things [by] adding a bit more thought into what would make a great album - instead of being just a collection of pop hits."
