Maroon 5 tie with Carly Rae Jepsen's U.S. chart record

'Payphone' hitmakers Maroon 5 have matched a 2012 U.S. chart record set by Canadian songstress Carly Rae Jepsen.

Earlier this year, Jepsen earned an impressive 9 weeks at No.1 with her summer anthem 'Call Me Maybe' which gave her the reign of having the longest-running No.1 single of this year, but Maroon 5 have now tied after celebrating their ninth week on top of the Billboard Hot 100.

Gotye managed to hold on to the top spot for 8 weeks with 'Somebody That I Used To Know', but Maroon 5 have now jumped ahead and are neck-and-neck with Jepsen as a result.

The band will head out on tour next year in support of their latest studio album, which is titled 'Overexposed', and they described the opportunity as the chance for a "second life":

"We feel like we've had this resurgence - this second life - where we're pushing ourselves that much harder to make the best concert experience we could possibly have. It's certainly going to be something that we want the whole world to see."
