We’ve caught up with Dry & Bolinger to have a chat about their fresh remix of CeCe Rogers and Moodlife’s ‘Rumors & Lies’ and how they went about producing such a memorable remix.

Hi guys, how are you both and what are you up to at the moment?

We are doing great and we are spending a lot of time in the studio at the moment!

You’ve been producing numerous stunning tracks in the past few months. How do you guys manage to maintain such an industrious rate of production whilst keeping top-notch quality?

Thank you for the compliment! We just keep doing what we feel in front of our machines and monitors, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t. Right now it´s working really well!

You guys are quickly becoming synonymous with amazing remix work. What’s the secret behind that?

The secret is: there is no secret. We did a few remixes and with every release there was another request for a nice remix job. Unfortunately we haven't been able to do all of them because we needed to concentrate on our own tracks, as well.

What are the main differences you observe when working on a remix compared to an original?

The difference maybe is that the very first idea you have depends on a sample from the original track, that you don´t have when you start with a blank sheet. We like both, doing remixes and doing original tracks. When we do remixes for other artists we try to use as few samples or remix stems as possible. We want to be sure it will be a real remix, not a kind of “rework”.

One of your newer creations is the remix for CeCe Rodgers and Moodlife’s ‘Rumors & Lies’. What can you tell us about that?

It was such a great pleasure to remix that track! After we finished it, CeCe posted a video of himself dancing, with our remix playing in the background. That was unreal!

Why did you choose to work on this song?

CeCe is a living legend and when he asked us to do a remix for him and Moodlife, man, we were over the moon. I guess, we would have said yes even without knowing the original hahaha.

How long did the whole remix process take for ‘Rumors & Lies’?

Oh, very hard to tell...several studio sessions with too much cigarettes and not enough sunlight.

Describe the approach you’ve used for this remix.

We wanted to keep it groovy, straight but in the same time melodic and Housey.

His voice is unique and we tried to “treat” his vocals with respect. When we started doing this remix we were like “man, can you believe this!?”. A few hours later we had a nice groove and developed a nice piano riff.

How does it feel to be able to put your twist on the work of two Dance music masters like CeCe Rodgers and Moodlife?

The whole Moodlife crew (Marshall Jefferson, CeCe Rogers, his son KJ and many more artists) is a blast. We went crazy when CeCe gave us a video call from New Jersey and asked us face to face if we would do the remix. We felt really honored and of course said yes! It wasn't easy to stay cool in this conversation while dancing under the desk, hahaha.

Where would you imagine ‘Rumors & Lies Remix’ being played?

Everywhere! You can listen to it in your car, at your warm up party at home and later in the clubs. When we are producing, we are not like “this one is a main time track or that one is going to be a nice warm up groover”. The DJ decides, as always.

Do you have any other remixes in the pipeline?

Yes, at the end of June a remix for Ante Perry & Cosmo Klein will be released on “Raison” and a remix for Stu Patrics at “Wonnemusik” will follow. Two more remixes aren’t ready yet, but will be finished soon.

If you had to choose any artist in the world - who would you like to like to remix?

Well, that's a good question. Maybe a remix for Purple Disco Machine would be great. Working with genius vocalists like for example Roisin Murphy would be a dream come true as well.

Thanks guys!

Thank you.
