Matt Cardle has revealed his sadness at not seeing One Direction very often.

The singer was on the same X Factor UK series as the boyband and they lived together whilst on the show.

Cardle ultimately won the series, but finalists One Direction have gone on to achieve world success.

Their global fame and busy schedule means that the 'When We Collide' star has found it difficult to catch up with the lads.

He told Spin 1030: "I don't spend as much time with them as [I’d like to]. I lived with them for ten weeks, then we went on [The X Factor] tour for fourteen weeks, but it’s like, they’re busy, I’m busy, y’know..."

The singer-songwriter meanwhile is about to open his 2014 Porcelain tour, which kicks off in Belfast on April 1.

The live run comes after a recent stint in rehab, which Cardle said came about after being told he might die in a month.
