Dougie Poynter: "Rehab completely and utterly saved my life"

McFly's Dougie Poynter has admitted that spending time in rehab both changed and saved his life.

The singer, who was recently crowned the winner of 2011's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, entered a treatment facility back in March following his split from The Saturdays' Frankie Sandford and has now told The Sun newspaper that it was the best thing he has ever done:

"I went into rehab after a long time having issues with myself. One thing led to another and all of a sudden I was in there. It was either that or God knows what would have happened. It was solely the best thing I've ever done, it completely and utterly saved my life. I'm all hunkydory now."

He explained that while it was tough to adapt his lifestyle once his treatment period had ended, he was lucky as his family and friends gave him the support he needed to make the transition as easy as possible:

"When I came out I was a bit confused as to the way I was going to be living my life from then on, but I guess I got lucky. After a few months I started seeing changes, my relationships with family and friends, and life in general, got better."
