RALEIGH RITCHIE AND NICHOLAS HOULT TO TAKE ON ‘THE MONKEY RUN’ IN MOROCCO NYE

THE TRIP WILL RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY (CALM)

THE PAIR WILL TRAVERSE ON ‘MONKEY BIKES’ 1000KM ACROSS THE SAHARA DESERT AND ATLAS MOUNTAINS WITH FRIENDS, SPONSORED BY CARRERA EYEWEAR

This New Year’s Eve, acclaimed actor and musician Raleigh Ritchie will be accompanied by award-winning actor and close friend Nicholas Hoult, as they traverse the dramatic Moroccan landscape on miniature motorbikes to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). The trip will be sponsored by Carrera Eyewear.

Taking place from 31st December, ‘The Monkey Run’ will take around a week to complete, as Ritchie and Hoult - accompanied by a small group of their closest friends, collectively dubbed Moroccan Rollaz for the trip - drive small motorcycles known as ‘monkey bikes’ from a secret location near Merzouga in Western Morocco, 1000 kilometres across the country to their finishing point, where Morocco meets the Atlantic Ocean. Of the challenge, Raleigh Ritchie says:

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. Depression and anxiety affect a huge number of us. It’s so important that the barriers that keep us from talking, seeking out help, and finding a way to cope when things feel desperate, are removed. I know first-hand that this stuff isn’t easy to face. The work that CALM does to encourage conversation and awareness around men's mental health is vital to preventing male suicide and creating a space where it's a safe to talk about it.

Moroccan Rollaz are taking on the Monkey Run challenge in support of CALM to raise money and awareness so that they can continue to help people who need support. I'm terrified. And that's why I want to do it. To prove to myself that fear can't consume me, and together with my brothers on tiny bikes, we can conquer the desert and make it through together.”

Nicholas Hoult says:

“CALM do such a great job highlighting a really important cause and encouraging the conversation around men’s mental health and preventing male suicide. The group of us taking on this challenge want to raise some money and awareness for CALM so they can continue to help people in need.”

The trip will be in aid of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) - the UK’s leading charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45. CALM provide support for men who are down or in crisis, and campaign for culture change to tackle outdated stereotypes of masculinity that often prevent men seeking help. World-leading eyewear brand Carrera are sponsoring Raleigh and Nicholas’ trip, by providing eyewear and donating to the cause.
