Mumford & Sons have been personally invited by British Prime Minister David Cameron to play at a special dinner hosted by Barack Obama.

The Telegraph reports that the folk band were asked by Cameron to play the event tonight (March 14), which is due to take place at the White House.

The newspaper reports that 1,000 people are due to attend the event, which is said to be organised in honour of Cameron's visit to the US.

Obama meanwhile has picked soul singer John Legend to perform at the event.

Indeed, the US President has somewhat of an affiliation with music, having shared the stage with the likes of Bruce Springsteen and BB King in the past. As previously reported, a Spotify playlist conjured up by Barack Obama and his team revealed some surprising tastes, with the likes of No Doubt and Noah and the Whale making the list.
