Mumford & Sons considered cancelling Glastonbury show

Mumford & Sons have admitted they thought about pulling their headline slot at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The band performed a triumphant set at the massive festival at the end of June but it came only weeks after their bassist Ted Dwane underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from the surface of his brain.

The British group cancelled some of their US tour dates in the days following the operation, but they ploughed on and played Glastonbury.

Speaking to NME, frontman Marcus Mumford admitted that they did consider cancelling all of their summer shows to let Dwane recover. He said:

"Everything was on the cards and everything is less important than Ted so we were ready to cancel the rest of the summer, definitely. And we wouldn't play a gig without him - it's four of us, or it's none of us."

He continued: "Ted wanted to play the day he got out! The three of us had to sit down and be like, 'Dude, it's alright, let's just can these. Go and sleep!'"

Dwane meanwhile added: "We were talking about just cracking on and just doing it. I felt fine - those 10 days before I was in such pain, but soon as I came out of the operating room I felt, comparatively, a million dollars...these guys very wisely said, 'Maybe not'."
