Nathan Sykes on The Wanted's split: 'I wasn't going to crawl into a hole'

Singer Nathan Sykes has revealed that he was gutted when The Wanted disbanded, but the great thing that came from that situation was his desire to continue on as a solo artist.

During a new interview with Teen Vogue, the star explained that after he made peace with The Wanted's split he was able to realise that he still wanted to be in the music world:

"It took a minute to get used to the thought of not being a band anymore, and when we finished the tour and announced we were taking a break, I got home and was thinking, 'OK, this is weird.' But then I realised I was too young to stop doing what I love and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wasn't going to crawl into a hole somewhere."

He went onto add that finding his own sound came naturally: "I started off quite R&B, but realised what I was writing was great for other people - not me. After writing this commercial pop/R&B thing - the song was awful - we just sat there and jammed for a bit."

"And it came out of nowhere that this is what I wanted to do and how I was going to make happen. I ran home with the new music like I had Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket or something. I was literally Charlie Bucket. The more I found my sound, the less I was worried about being on my own."
