Nathan Sykes calls on schools to teach more about icons after Prince death

Nathan Sykes thinks the education system should teach more about icons and influential artists in music classes.

The singer made the suggestion on Twitter following the death of pop star Prince on Thursday (April 21).

The musician died aged 57-year-old and he left behind a massive legacy.

Speaking on Friday (April 22), Sykes said that schools should do more to educate pupils on musicians who have shaped the art form.

Responding to a fan who said it would be like teaching about Elvis in history and education isn't about famous people, Sykes said:

"They're 'famous' because they changed music. You couldn't be more wrong when you say it's like saying we should each about Elvis in history.

"We should be learning about Elvis in music lessons and learning how he changed music and influenced so many artists today. Prince did the same. It's about music in education being modernised."

The Brit added: "I'm saying that the syllabus for music in education isn't up to date or structured well enough to enable kids to learn about these modern music icons and learn about how people like Prince changed music."
