Nathan Sykes chose his singles for a specific reason

Singer and musician Nathan Sykes has confessed that the singles he has released, and the ones that are still to come, have been carefully chosen for a specific reason.

Chatting to EQ Music at the British Summertime Festival recently, he explained that he has been incredibly selective in choosing the singles because he wants each one to showcase a different aspect of what he's able to do and he wants them to reflect what fans will hear on his debut album:

"With the singles I wanted to show different sides to the album. For me, it's all about the album. You had 'Kiss Me Quick' and then 'Over and Over Again', which couldn't be more different, and then obviously 'Give It Up' is showing a more R&B side... and my next single is going to be... another side! So they're like the outsides of the album, which has been really cool to put together."

"I want people to go and listen to the album. So as many different areas of music that I can tap into - within the 'me' bubble - the better. I think as long as it's got a core, which I'm creating, and I don't suddenly start dropping singles that are, like, drum and bass or power ballads, then we're fine."

He went onto add that the biggest lesson he has learned since going solo is that he is in control of everything:

"That you have to talk a lot more! It took me a minute to get used to it, I'm not going to lie [...] Having full creative control is amazing. It's not a collaborative effort anymore, which was great, but now as a solo artist I'm really deciding everything. The direction of the music, what instruments to put in the songs... even writing the songs, which I'm doing a lot more of than I was when I was in a band. That process is something I've really learned to appreciate."
