Nathan Sykes on rediscovering himself while writing his debut solo album

Singer-songwriter Nathan Sykes has opened up about the upcoming release of his debut solo album, Unfinished Business, which is due to land on November 11.

Chatting to Gaby Roslin on The National Lottery, the talented musician admitted that he's a little anxious to finally unveil the record because he has been working on it for a couple of years, but is hopeful that people will enjoy the songs:

"It is (scary). You know what, it is. I've been working on it for two years now, so it's scary that it's six days away from being released. I'm very, very, very excited and can't wait to share my new music with everyone. It's like your baby and you're sending it out into the world for, hopefully, everyone to enjoy. Not that I've experienced this, but it would be like sending your kids off to university, I think."

He went onto talk about mentally preparing himself for his solo debut and confessed that he almost had to rediscover who he was as an artist and writer:

"I sat there and asked the question, for the first time, 'Who is Nathan Sykes?' I knew who Nathan from The Wanted was, but I didn't know who Nathan Sykes is. He's someone who really likes to write very hard songs to sing. I ended up writing a very vocally challenging album, it's a very personal album and I told some very personal stories on there."
