Nick Jonas on diabetes: 'This disease can be isolating'

Singer Nick Jonas has opened up about living with Type 1 diabetes and explained that it is manageable, but needs to be taken more seriously because people often assume it's to do with poor diet and health, which is incorrect.

The 'Bacon' hitmaker was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 13-years-old and he told InStyle magazine that he wants to use his fame to raise awareness about the disease: “This disease can be isolating."

"We know all too well how much encouragement in the day-to-day battle is needed, as it can truly be a struggle, but the community we are building is real.”

He co-founded Beyond Type 1 last year, which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to changing the conversation surrounding diabetes and providing support, and explained that he wants to erase the existing stigma:

“Life is about doing all you can to help other people. I’ve been able to raise my voice and share my story and hopefully help them in any way that I can. This is only the beginning of the impact we intend to make, and hopefully in my lifetime we will see a cure.”
