One Direction say upcoming tour will have "bonfire night" style fireworks

One Direction's upcoming tour will see "bonfire night" style pyro and a "ridiculous" stage design, according to the band.

The group are due to head out on their first headline stadium tour as they bring their Where We Are jaunt to the world.

It is set to be a grand affair and Liam Payne told Capital FM that they have sourced a top pyro engineer to create some mind-blowing effects.

He said: "We have Coldplay and Rudimental's pyro guy so we're gonna have some amazing fireworks. It's gonna be like bonfire night all over again."

Bandmate Niall Horan meanwhile added: "We've been chatting with our creative director, a guy called Lee Lodge – he's very good at stadiums. He did Robbie Williams' last tour – he came up with the creative directive for that.

"We've worked with Lee on basically all our TV performances we've ever done and Lee has decided that he wants to come on board for our stadium tour and he's been sending us pictures this week of our stage and stuff and it's literally ridiculous."

The first date on One Direction's Where We Are tour meanwhile will take place in Colombia on April 25.
