One Direction collect IFPI's Global Recording Artist award

One Direction have officially collected the IFPI Global Recording Artist of 2013 award.

The worldwide industry body confirmed late last month that the British-Irish group had topped their list of the most popular acts of the last year.

That means that the band had the most combined sales, downloads and streams in 2013. Eminem and Justin Timberlake came second and third on the list respectively.

The IFPI have now confirmed that the group collected their award recently alongside members of their management team and record label.

IFPI chief executive Frances Moore commented: "It was a pleasure to give IFPI's inaugural Global Recording Artists Award to One Direction. We named them the IFPI Global Recording Artists of 2013 back in January when we published our chart which, for the first time, measured the popularity of artists across the many different ways in which fans choose their music."

One Direction released their third album 'Midnight Memories' in November last year and it became the top selling record in the UK of 2013.
