One Direction's 'You & I' fails to beat VEVO 24-hour record

One Direction's latest video has failed to beat VEVO's coveted 24-hour hits record.

The boyband recently unleashed the clip for their new single 'You & I', which is being released on May 25.

A number of fans attempted to get the Ben Winston directed video into the record books by becoming the most watched clip on VEVO in its first day online.

However, the music video platform have confirmed that it fell some way short of the record with just 6,976,288 views.

This means that Miley Cyrus's 'Wrecking Ball' continues to hold the record as a result of its massive 19.3 million views.

However, One Direction fans demanded a recount late last year when they believed the band's 'Story of My Life' video should have overtaken Cyrus.

VEVO later confirmed that the US star still held the record.
