One Direction star Niall Horan has expressed his excitement at playing in his home country this weekend.

The band are due to play three shows at Dublin's Croke Park stadium on May 23, 24 and 25 as part of their Where We Are world tour.

Mullingar man Horan has never shied away from Emerald Isle patriotism and he took to Twitter to suggest that playing his home country for three shows will be a career highlight.

He wrote: "Lyin in bed ! Thinkin! this weekend is gona be hands down the best weekend of my life! #crokepark."

It will be a busy weekend for One Direction, however, with the boyband also scheduled to perform at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Glasgow on Saturday (May 24).

Support on the group's European tour meanwhile will come from 5 Seconds of Summer.
