Harry Styles has poured cold water on speculation that John Legend has co-written material for One Direction's next album.

The two singers recently took part in a writing session together and eager minds suggested that it was for the band's next record.

However, Styles told the Sunday Telegraph that he teamed up with Legend just to "write together".

He said: "I did some writing but it was for...it wasn’t for...yeah, we did it just to write together."

Speaking meanwhile about another session the band had with Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden, Styles said:

"Once again, we did some writing with them, they are such good lads. They are literally so funny. We were in LA in the studio with them for a couple of days and did a couple of songs. I haven’t heard anything back yet though so we will see."
