One Direction's Liam Payne: "We've always been a bit ridiculed because of being on the X Factor"

One Direction star Liam Payne thinks a lot of people look down at them because of their X Factor roots.

The band were formed from five solo contestants on the UK TV talent show in 2010 before finding global fame.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills, Payne said he feels that his band are often maligned because of their beginnings and also their pop-leaning sound.

Referring to receiving praise from Coldplay's Chris Martin, he said: "It's the best thing ever. We've always been a little bit ridiculed because of being on the X Factor and people say it's the easy route or whatever.

"Then because some of the songs that we've released are on the 'poppy' side of things. So it's like we do get a bit of stick from certain music groups or whatever like, 'They're not cool'.

"But to have somebody who is literally one of the coolest men in music confirm for you that, 'No these boys are alright', that is huge for us."
