Louis Tomlinson still hoping to help Doncaster Rovers and local community after takeover fails

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has confirmed that he still wants to assist Doncaster Rovers after his takeover bid fell through.

The singer had teamed up with former chairman John Ryan to buy the League One football club and they recently launched a crowdfunded trust to raise money for the team, which failed to meet its target.

However, the duo stated on Thursday (July 17) that the deal had fallen foul of Football League rules and regulations, with Ryan suggesting it was due to money worries.

Speaking on Twitter, Tomlinson later said that he is still keen on helping the team, who he has supported since a child.

The singer said: "For the record, I insisted contractually I would never earn a penny from DRFC. I simply wanted to help club & community. Still hoping I can."

Rovers meanwhile said in a statement on Thursday that they are still awaiting official confirmation that the deal has fallen though:

"We have today received the statement on behalf of the Tomlinson Ryan Trust confirming the Crowdfunder project has failed to reach the terms of the funding arrangements. We are aware that the statement confirms that the proposed deal to takeover the club is now in doubt, we are awaiting formal confirmation that the takeover deal will not complete as expected on Friday 18 July."
