Teen artist quits school to start portrait business after One Direction drawings success

A young artist has ditched school to launch his own company after enjoying success with One Direction portraits.

18-year-old Jack Ede from Lincolnshire rose to fame online when his drawings of members of the popular boyband were shared on the internet by Louis Tomlinson's sister Lottie.

The lifelike drawings became huge successes on sites like Instagram and he has been offered £400 for his Harry Styles picture.

The popularity has prompted Ede to draw full-time and set up his own business. He told BBC Newsbeat:

"The first one was the Louis one and they absolutely loved it. Then I did Niall after that, and they absolutely loved that. Then I built suspense by posting subtle pictures of the progress of the Harry one. When I posted the finished piece, it just went insane."

"There were a few comments where people said, 'I have seen better' and I just thought, 'Fair enough', but most of the comments have been great."

Whilst Ede isn't a big One Direction fan, the artist hopes to do further drawings of the boyband.

He said: "I want to do all five of them and then a group photo. I have done three so far so I still have a long way to go. It's worth it, I have been offered hundreds of pounds for their drawings."
