Harry Styles denies One Direction is a brand: 'We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the music'

Harry Styles has rejected the idea that One Direction is a money-making brand.

The accusation has often been levelled against the boyband, who formed on the UK X Factor in 2010.

They sell bucketloads of merchandise alongside their albums, singles and concert tickets, but Styles told Top of the Pops magazine that it's not all about commerce.

He said of One Direction being a brand: "It’s not true! You can’t ride along on the fact that you can sell a lot of t-shirts.

"We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the music. If the music stops being strong, then everything else goes away - it just does."

The band meanwhile are currently in the midst of a massive North America stadium tour.

The Where We Are jaunt has already visited Europe and South America and the lads are scheduled to hit countries like Australia in the near future.
