One Direction's Louis Tomlinson 'jumped' at chance to play charity football match

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has spoken of his excitement ahead of another charity football game.

The singer will line-up for Rio Ferdinand’s All-Stars side in the Maestrio match at Celtic Park in Glasgow on September 7.

The team will take on Paul McStay's Maestros as ex-players such as Paul Scholes take to the pitch in aid of charity.

There will be some celebrities lining up on the day and this includes One Direction singer Tomlinson.

He said in a statement: "I’m incredibly excited to be returning to Celtic Park to play in the Maestrio Charity Match! When Rio asked me to come and join his All-Star team, I jumped at the chance to play. I have fond memories of playing in front of the Celtic Park crowd last year for the Stiliyan Petrov match, and I am thrilled to be able sample the tremendous atmosphere once again.

“It’s an absolute honour to line up alongside players like Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Gianfranco Zola and it’ll be an amazing experience to play with these legends. I’m delighted to play in the Maestrio match and help raise money for such worthy causes and I’m sure it’ll be a brilliant day of charity and footballing fun!"

Tomlinson played at a Celtic Park charity match last year, but he threw up on the side of the pitch after being subbed off.

Tickets for the game are available now.
