One Direction's new song has become the most downloaded free song in history.

The band released the track 'Fireproof' on Monday (September 8) as a 24-hour free download via their official website.

It has been confirmed that the song, which features on the band's upcoming album 'FOUR', was downloaded 1,089,278 times.

This means that it is the most downloaded free song in history, despite only being available for one day.

'FOUR' meanwhile will be released on November 17.

It marks the follow-up to One Direction's massive 2013 album 'Midnight Memories'.
