One Direction say 'Steal My Girl' was the 'right' song to use as first single

One Direction say 'Steal My Girl' was the "right" choice for the first official single from their upcoming new album.

The boyband are due to release the track on October 12 as the first single from forthcoming record 'FOUR'.

Whilst the group have unleashed 'Fireproof' via a 24-hour free download, Niall Horan told Australia's Today show this week that 'Steal My Girl' was the perfect tune to release as a single.

He said: "We started writing and recording the album fairly early this year, and 'Steal My Girl' was one of the earlier tracks we recorded.

"After putting them together we just kind of thought it was the right one to go with. It matches up to everything that we need at this time."

'FOUR' meanwhile will be released on November 17.
