One Direction admit to feeling lonely on tour: "Being away from home is a huge downside"

One Direction have opened about how they suffer from loneliness whilst travelling around the world.

The boys – who are currently on their Where We Are world tour – spoke to OK! magazine about what their life is like on the road.

Louis Tomlinson stated: “The tour bus is a little escape, that little back lounge we sit in. Hotel rooms can often be lonely. It's just an easier way to deal with it all.”

He added: “'I can't really do 'on my own' time, I have to have someone's attention.”

Liam Payne concurred, saying: “'Being away from home is a huge downside of touring. You miss your family and friends.”

Another aspect of their lifestyle they flagged up as being problematic is their lack of freedom.

Niall Horan explained: “It can be quite frustrating being stuck in a hotel. I remember in Peru - I got up, went into Louis' room and said, 'Right, what we doing today?' and he goes, 'We should go shopping.' Then we looked out of the window. There were 10,000 people on the street outside our hotel.”

The Irish singer also recently compared being on tour to living in a “fishbowl”.
