One Direction director Ben Winston says band probably won't attempt fictional movie

One Direction aren't likely to film a scripted movie.

The boyband have regularly been linked with having their own fictional flick, but director Ben Winston - who has worked on One Direction music videos - has distanced the group from the possibility.

The lads released their first documentary movie This Is Us last year and Winston told Digital Spy that going in the fictional direction is unlikely.

He said: "I don't think we've ever had conversations with the boys about it. I thought [the acted video] 'Best Song Ever' was going to be very hard for them, and I remember when I pitched it to them it would be a really hard pitch - and even if they go for it, I don't know if they're going to have the ability to pull it off.

"I remember being on set in Miami gobsmacked by how brilliant they were and it sort of made me think, 'Wow, they really could do a movie like [A Hard Day's Night and Spiceworld]'. But I never went to them with it, because I sort of feel that's not who they are. When you see them live it feels like they're little young rock stars other than a cute boyband. However you do those movies, they can sometimes come across a little bit try-hard."

Winston added: "Although they are brilliant actors, we didn't suddenly opt at the time to do an acting movie.

"I think if you were to write a script saying that four years ago there would be five unknown boys, and they'd join a band through a TV show, and then go on to write their own albums and become the biggest music sensation we've seen in years; if someone brought me a script like that, I would go, 'Well, I don't believe that. That couldn't be true'.

"That's actually what's happened, so I don't think fiction could ever be as good as the story we've got with One Direction. I feel like we might as well tell the real story, because actually it's more impressive."
