Dermot O'Leary says One Direction were a 'pleasure' to have on X Factor

Dermot O'Leary has opened up on his relationship with One Direction when they were on the X Factor.

The boyband formed on the 2010 series of the TV talent show and despite not winning, they have become one of the biggest acts around.

Speaking in his new autobiography The Soundtrack to My Life, X Factor host O'Leary said that the lads were excellent company on the series.

He said: "In particular, I got to know Harry Styles well over these ten weeks. He really was an old head on young shoulders and post-show, he'd often come up to the dressing room for a cheeky under-age Corona in exchange for a sausage and apple slice from his mum's bakery.

"But all the boys were a pleasure to have on the show. Niall was always full of positivity, although his impression of Peter Dickson doing my name was truly awful. Sorry, Niall. Zayn, whilst shy, was always polite and engaging. And I had a history with Louis (from backstage at Wembley Arena) and Liam, who'd auditioned way back in my first series."

Soundtrack to My Life meanwhile was released in the UK on October 9.
