One Direction criticised for using chimp in new video

One Direction have come under fire for using a chimp in their new video.

The lads are due to release the promo clip for their latest single 'Steal My Girl' on Friday (October 24).

Today (October 23) a batch of photos from the shoot were revealed and they see Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik playing with a chimp.

However, the animal is seen chained up and the chimp's cameo has been criticised by animal rights supporters.

A rep for the band responded by saying: "No animals were hurt in the making of the 1D video and strict guidelines were adhered to."

Animal rights group PETA earlier this year publicly criticised Lily Allen for using a zebra in her 'Air Balloon' video.
