One Direction star Liam Payne has admitted meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of his life.

The group met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at last night's (November 13) Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium.

Speaking to the Mirror after their meeting, Payne said: "It's the most nervous I think I've ever been in my life."

Bandmate Louis Tomlinson meanwhile admitted that he might have fallen short of royal etiquette.

He said: "I didn't say ma'am. I said - 'Hi. How are you? I'm Louis'."

The Royal Variety Performance - which also saw the likes of Ed Sheeran and Demi Lovato perform - will be broadcast in the UK on ITV in December.
