One Direction make US chart history

One Direction have broken a US chart record.

The group recently released their new album 'FOUR' in the country and it shot straight to No.1 in the country.

In doing so the quintet have become the first band to hit the albums chart top spot in the US with their first four records.

They first achieved the feat in 2012 with their debut 'All Up Night', with 'Take Me Home' also topping the US chart later that year.

In 2013, 'Midnight Memories' also hit No.1 on the Billboard albums chart.

'FOUR' meanwhile sold 387,000 copies in its first week in the States.

It is a marked downturn in sales, however, from One Direction's previous album 'Midnight Memories'.

That shifted 546,000 in its first week in 2013.
