Liam Payne's Voice contestant cousin not looking to emulate One Direction

Liam Payne's cousin Ross Harris says he is looking to follow a "different path" than One Direction despite auditioning for The Voice.

The relative of the boyband singer has performed on the UK TV talent show, which features Rita Ora as a coach.

Harris will star on the programme on Saturday (January 31) and the musician, drummer and vocalist told the Press Association that he isn't looking to emulate his cousin's band.

He said: "They’re such a big phenomenon. He’s done so well and that’s really cool, but I kind of want to go down a different path really.

"It’s not like I want to replicate what they’ve done, because they’ve done their own thing which is completely different to what everyone else has done."

Harris added about his audition: "Liam doesn’t actually know about it. I didn’t tell many people. I’ll mention it to him this week though. I mentioned it because I knew it would come out in the press, but not at my audition because I didn’t want it to seem like I was using it to get further in the competition."

Harris meanwhile has previously played as a session drummer with the likes of Ella Henderson and Union J.
