Study shows most fans support Zayn Malik's decision to leave One Direction

A study of Twitter has concluded that most One Direction fans support Zayn Malik's wish to leave the band.

The singer quit the group on Wednesday (March 25), citing his need to live a more normal life after five years in the spotlight.

Fans have taken to Twitter in their droves to voice their opinion on the news.

Oxford University have studied the tweets sent about Malik after the news broke.

They claim that 69% of messages posted about the singer supported his wish.

Oxford University's Dr Karo Moilanen commented: "The degree of positivity reflects the mixed emotions that people often experience in similar 'loss situations'.

"Despite Malik's shocking departure that caused obvious shock and sadness, his fans still love him dearly."

One Direction are continuing as a four-piece following the news.
