Zayn Malik pays tribute to former One Direction bandmates

Zayn Malik has thanked his ex One Direction bandmates in a public speech.

The singer quit the pop group last month to live a more normal life.

The Brit was given the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at the Annual Asian Awards in London on Friday (April 17).

Malik gave a speech at the event and he took time to praise his former One Direction peers.

He said: "I'd also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I ever met whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things that I did.

"Some of the things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life."

The singer was presented the award by producer and collaborator Naughty Boy.

Malik joined One Direction in 2010 when they were pieced together on the X Factor from five solo contestants.
