One Direction set a new Spotify record for one-day streams

UK based boyband One Direction have set an impressive new Spotify record for one-day streams on Spotify with their surprise new single, 'Drag Me Down'. 

The heartthrobs' new cut was played 4.75 million times globally on Friday, July 31 and it broke a milestone that had been previously set by Wiz Khalifa with his track 'See You Again,' which was streamed 4.26 million times on April 17.

Spotify has also now confirmed that 'Drag Me Down' is also the first track ever to hit No.1 on the the Spotify Global Chart on its first day of release. Calvin Harris previously held that record with 'Blame', which reached the top spot in just two days.

A press release from Hackford Jones that was sent just before the weekend also confirmed that "'Drag Me Down' was the top worldwide Twitter trend for over ten hours today, with 22k tweets per minute being sent, and 3.2 million tweets by 3pm today."
