One Direction beat Adam Lambert to Australian singles chart No.1

One Direction have topped this week's Australian singles chart.

The boyband's surprise new single 'Drag Me Down' has topped the ARIA list.

Despite the group's global fame, the track is One Direction's first No.1 single in the country.

Their previous best was 2012's 'Live While We're Young', which peaked at No.2.

Second to One Direction on the ARIA chart meanwhile is Adam Lambert's 'Ghost Town'.

The tune launched up from No.16 to land at No.2.

In third place is The Weeknd's 'Can't Feel My Face'.
