One Direction stars confirm band will go on extended break

One Direction singers Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson have confirmed reports that the group will take a prolonged break.

The Sun reported on Monday (August 24) that the band were due to take at least a year out from March next year.

While their PR issued a 'no comment' response, the news was widely reported across the globe.

Speaking on Twitter last night, Horan confirmed plans to go on hiatus.

However, he denied speculation that the news means the boyband will split.

The Irishman wrote: "Ok so Lots of rumours going round. We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year.

"Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform.

"Some new songs as the tour continues! Love you all xx."

Louis Tomlinson added: "Your support is truly indescribable! It's just a break :) we're not going anywhere!! [sic]"

In March One Direction were reduced to a quartet after Zayn Malik left.
