One Direction break social media record at the O2 Arena

Boyband One Direction are currently performing a six-night residency at London's O2 Arena and they've already broken an exciting record by simply taking a selfie at the venue.

The four heartthrobs took a picture with the arena's first venue-based 'Twitter Mirror', which attracted a significant amount of attention when it was uploaded to the O2's official Twitter page last night. The image was retweeted 25,000 times and over 35,000 people favourited the post.

On Twitter alone, the image was reached by a staggering 1.3 million people. The General Manager of The O2 Arena, Rebecca Kane Burton, explained: "It was an amazing first night and we know the Directioners loved it. We've never seen such engagement on social media and the buzz online and in the venue was something special."

1D's final concert at the O2 Arena will take place on September 30 and they will then travel to the Manchester Arena for two shows on October 3 and 4 respectively. The jaunt will wrap on Halloween, October 31.
