Liam Payne happy with timing of Zayn Malik's One Direction departure

Singer Liam Payne, of One Direction fame, has revealed that while it was sad to lose Zayn Malik from the band, it happened at the best time possible.

During a new interview with Smallzy on Nova Fm Australia, member Liam Payne explained that Malik's departure was a shame, but came at the best time because it allowed the remaining 1D lads to create an album from the very beginning stages as a four-piece:

"He'd actually left before we started to really make it. We'd written songs but those songs are nothing at that point, they're not definitely going to make the album, there's no solid ground, so those songs could be for anybody - like, it's just a writing session."

"So it was kinda crucial at the time that he left that he had left (sic) otherwise it might have made things very different for us, 'cause we'd have to do a lot of re-recording of different things - more the work side of things than anything."
