One Direction have been confirmed as one of the musical guests on this year's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

The boyband will perform at the Billboard Hollywood Party section of the US TV programme in Los Angeles.

The show will be broadcast on December 31 and it will once again be hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

One Direction said in a statement: "It's been an incredible year for us and we can't wait to ring in the New Year with all our fans on New Year's Rockin' Eve.

"It's an honour to be back at the Billboard Hollywood Party for our second year."

The show will be one of the last televised performances the band will give before going on hiatus in 2016.

The group will focus on solo efforts and take time off following the release of fifth album 'Made in the A.M.' on November 13.

The quartet, however, have reassured fans that they will get back together once the break is over.
