One Direction win fastest-selling album of the year and a fourth No.1

It’s been a close race, but One Direction didn’t let anybody drag them down – they finished out in front of Justin Bieber to score their fourth Number 1 album with 'Made In The A.M.'

'Made In The A.M.' enjoyed first-week chart sales of 93,189 make it the fastest selling album of 2015, beating the record previously held by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ 'Chasing Yesterday'.

'Made In The A.M.' is the band’s first release as a foursome, following the departure of Zayn Malik earlier this year, and is their fourth to top the Official Albums Chart after 2012’s 'Take Me Home', 2013’s 'Midnight Memories' and 2014’s 'Four'.

Justin Bieber has to settle for the runner-up spot, but it’s not all bad news as Bieber bags himself the second fastest-seller of the year - fourth studio album 'Purpose' has notched up just over 90,000 combined chart sales this week – the second highest opening-week sales of 2015.

Former chart-topper 'If I Can Dream', from Elvis Presley falls to Number 3, and Jeff Lynne’s ELO make the first of their two appearances in today’s Official Albums Chart with new entry 'Alone In The Universe', at No.4, while 'All Over The World – The Very Best Of' re-enters at No.28.

Little Mix’s third album 'Get Weird' slips three slots to round off this week’s Official Albums Chart Top 5.

Aside from One Direction (1), Justin Bieber (2) and Jeff Lynne’s ELO (4), there are five further brand new entries on today’s Official Albums Chart. Andre Rieu’s new collaboration with the Johann Strauss Orchestra, 'Roman Holiday', is new at No.8, while X Factor winner Ben Haenow scores a first Top 10 album with his self-titled debut (10).

Kylie Minogue lands herself a 22nd Top 40 album with her festive release 'Kylie Christmas' (12), and Eva Cassidy’s 'Nightbird', released to mark the 20th anniversary of her Blues Alley concert, is new at Number 17. Shires’ 'Brave' sneaks back into the Top 40 to re-enter at Number 38, and Neil Young bangs himself a 36th Top 40 with live album 'Bluenote Café', new at Number 39.
