One Direction have usurped 5 Seconds of Summer on MTV's Stars poll.

The UK music television company are asking fans to tweet for their favourite act of 2015.

Lady Gaga is currently top of the list with around 33.7 million tweets.

One Direction have now overtaken 5 Seconds of Summer on the list and are placed at No.2 with over 33 million votes.

At the time of writing, 5 Seconds of Summer are around 500,000 tweets behind.

Britney Spears is an outsider at No.3, while Lana Del Rey follows at No.5.

Voting closes on December 15 and the winner will be revealed four days later.

One Direction meanwhile are set to take a prolonged break in 2016.
