1D's Liam Payne pays tribute to the late presenter Terry Wogan

One Direction star Liam Payne has paid tribute to late radio star Sir Terry Wogan.

The broadcaster died aged 77 on Sunday (January 31) following a short battle with cancer.

The news prompted an outpouring of tributes for the popular presenter, who was born in Limerick.

One Direction star Liam Payne has now added his voice to the messages, writing on Twitter:

"Real loss to the world today the man with the golden voice terry Wogan you will be sorely missed rip."

The sad news was confirmed in a statement on Sunday, which read:

"Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer. He passed away surrounded by his family.

"While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time."

Alongside his radio duties, Wogan fronted Children In Need and the Eurovision Song Contest for decades.
