Niall Horan on experimental studio sessions and the biggest challenge of going solo

Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan, who recently launched a solo career with his debut single 'This Town', has revealed that his album will have a varied mix of sounds.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the star explained that things got a little experimental in the studio and at one point he used a "a coffee jar full of beans" to simulate percussion:

"Some of the songs are heavier than others. I play a bit of electric on some tracks and we obviously played around a lot with percussion stuff to build up the songs so there was a lot of things going on percussion wise."

The One Direction heartthrob went onto add that his collaborator, drummer Aaron Sterling, also made use of "pink twine that was attached to 12 empty cans of Perrier sparkling water": "He would just drop them on the floor next to the mic in time and it would make a crashing marching sound."

Niall Horan then spoke about the most challenging thing he found about working on his debut solo album: "The biggest challenge of making the album was making sure I could sing for that long. I did write the songs in my key so I didn't try to make it too difficult for myself."
