One Direction's Liam Payne "so grateful" for Olympic closing gig slot

One Direction star Liam Payne has revealed his gratitude at being asked to perform at the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony.

The boyband played their track 'What Makes You Beautiful' at London's Olympic Stadium to a massive TV audience as London 2012 came to a close on Sunday (August 12).

It's a long way from when they were bashful boys on the X Factor in 2010 and Liam Payne took to Twitter to express his gratitude at being asked to play. He said:

"Olympic ceremony was amazziinnggg! So greatfull that they asked us to perform! A performance that ill never ever forget !!! :)."

Bandmate Louis Tomlinson also spoke on the social networking website about the gig, calling it the "best night of my life".
